The concept of a muse is as old as creativity itself.
From the nine sister goddesses of Greek mythology to the human figures that have inspired artists for centuries, this source of inspiration has traditionally been… well, a person.
I’ve decided to travel a different route. For my latest series of illustrations, I’m swapping the ethereal for the automotive. My new muse: a red 2025 Ford Maverick XLT.
It’s not too big, not too small—a ‘just right’ vehicle to drive creativity. And the red paint? Let’s just call it the colour of inspiration.
Now comes the fun part: exploring this muse’s many facets.
How does it look in the hazy glow of a summer dawn versus the stark shadows of a damp midnight street? What stories does it tell when warped into a retro-futuristic past or an apocryphal, or dystopian tomorrow? Can a truck look pensive, joyful, or mysterious? How would artists from the past have viewed this intrusion into their existence?
This is an exploration of form, function, and feeling, visualized through a single, crimson lens.
