2024 Mazda MX-5: Good for what ails you

Simple, brilliant, joyful, fun…

The Mazda Miata, or MX-5, was born out of a simple yet brilliant idea: to create a fun, affordable sports car that could bring joy to drivers worldwide. In the 1980s, when most automakers were focused on practicality and fuel efficiency, Mazda decided to swim against the current and revive the spirit of classic British roadsters.

Thus, the Miata was conceived, with its lightweight design, perfect balance, and a convertible top that could be opened faster than you can say “zoom-zoom”.

The Japanese brand wanted drivers to feel a connection with the road, a sensation they poetically called Jinba ittai or ‘horse and rider as one’. It’s as if Mazda engineers spent their days driving on winding mountain roads, pondering the zen of driving, all in the name of automotive enlightenment.

The result was a car that rekindled the joy of driving and also proved that you don’t need massive horsepower or a hefty price tag to have a blast behind the wheel.

In essence, Mazda created the Miata because they believed that life is too short to drive boring cars and that sometimes, the best way to solve a midlife crisis is with a tiny two-seater that makes you feel like a teenager again.
