Wheel Woman: Wearing Toyota’s stylish 2025 Crown Signia

The 2025 Crown Signia is Toyota’s latest foray into the SUV world and the second vehicle to use the Crown name, the highest nameplate available before moving into Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus.

It is by no means a new nameplate. In fact, the Crown, in sedan form, was Toyota’s first passenger car sold in North America way back in 1955, making it Toyota’s longest running nameplate for a passenger car.

The Limited is the only trim available for the Crown Signia in Canada and starts at $57,450.

The fashionable and functional modern take on the legendary wagon replaces the out-going Venza and uses the same powertrain (hybrid) as the Prius and the Rav4 Hybrid.

• The piano key layout of the controls inside
• The straight clean dash with flat centre screen
• The division in the cupholders for more organized storage (pet peeve of key fob in cupholders)

• The seats and cabin feel premium
• You can drive it on electricity alone at low speeds
• It’s smooth and oh so quiet – there is acoustic glass on the side windows of the front cabin
• Calm atmosphere
• Easy to get in and out of because it’s an SUV but it drives with the ease of a car
• 11-speaker JBL Premium audio system

Woes – As usual, Toyota makes it difficult to find anything wrong with their vehicles but…

• The engine sound, once it does kick in, gives the impression that it’s working hard under certain conditions
• I’m also not sure about the name

What’s in a name? What the heck is a ‘signia’ anyway??

My research tells me ‘Signia’ is the name of an ancient Roman colony. It’s also a brand of hearing aid. I don’t think either of these meanings are what Toyota intended.

Maybe it’s a slight distortion of the word ‘insignia’ which is a symbol or visual representation of membership in a group or organization, such as the military or royalty. That symbol could be a Crown?

The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia stands out with its looks, its fuel economy, its smooth ride and refined interior.
