2008 Freightliner: East Coaster Today

When Ken Trites of Moncton, New Brunswick, goes to Timmie’s for a coffee in his 2008 Freightliner, he could drill a water well on the way.

Ken bought the Freightliner M2 106 for his water well drilling business a year ago as a used cab-chassis. It was a propane delivery truck in Nova Scotia since new but its life was about to change.

The truck is powered by a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 10-speed Eaton Fuller manual transmission.

Ken rebuilt a 1953 Bucyrus Erie cable tool drill rig and bolted it to the frame rails of the Freightliner. Powered by a 1957 Lister Petty three-cylinder air-cooled diesel, the rig can drill about ten feet (three metres) an hour, depending on the soil.

As you can see, the truck bristles with equipment, much of it hand-built. It sure is a hard worker, much like Ken himself.
