1995 BMW 540i: East Coaster Today

We (Garry Sowerby and Lisa Calvi) have owned this 1995 E34 BMW since 1996. We bought it in Toronto, drove it home to Halifax and it’s been our wedding-funeral-christening-special occasion family car ever since.

Those special occasions are pretty much the only times this pristine 540i comes out to play. Which may explain why the car looks so damn good and only has 62,000 km on the odometer.

The rear-wheel drive family sedan has a smooooth six-speed manual transmission paired to a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine that pushes out 282 horsepower.

A smooth six-speed manual transmission mated to a 4.0-litre V8 powers this 1995 BMW 540i. No cupholders allowed.

It’s the third generation of the 5 Series executive car, which BMW has been producing since 1972. This generation, produced from 1987 until 1996, marked the first time a V8 engine was used in a 5 Series. The E34 also saw the introduction of stability control, traction control and that six-speed manual transmission.

It is most certainly not for sale. Or…. well… ask us in the spring.

Happy New Year from all of us here at EastCoastTester.com!!
