Vernon Smith’s jaw-dropping collection of antique, vintage and classic cars in Swift Current, NL, never ceases to amaze. Even the non-automotive person can find something in the collection to respect and admire.

We’ve showcased a few of Vernon’s gems here before, including a 1953 Oldsmobile Fiesta, a 1954 Kaiser Darrin, a ’57 Cadillac Eldorado, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird and a 1957 Dodge Custom.

Vernon’s 1955 Mercury Montclair, our East Coaster Today, was a premium sedan from the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company that slotted above the Monterey. Vernon’s gem is Banner Blue Metallic with a blue and white interior.

The long car measured 5,232 millimetres, a mere 150 millimetres shorter than today’s Cadillac Escalade.

The 1955 Mercury Montclair is powered by a 292 cubic inch V8 that makes 195 horsepower. The transmission is a ‘Merc-O-Matic.

Other features include power steering, power brakes, power top and seats, a Continental kit, an automatic chassis lubrication system, dual exhaust, dual spot lights and tinted glass. And a radio.

Only 10,668 were built.
